August Meeting Minutes

The August meeting was held at Oliver's house, and was well attended. As always, there was plenty of beer to drink, ranging from a bunch of Scott, Oliver, and Garrett's homebrews to the rest of us who cheated and brought "store bought". Oh well, it all does the same thing!

We learned some PA beer trivia at the meeting: in order for a beer to be a beer in PA, it MUST be at least 5% a/v.....so what do they call the other stuff???

There was a AHA membership drive at the Riverfront Iron Hill. Several members were to attend and maybe they can give us a report on the goings on.

"How Do You Brew" is now under new management and will remain open! We should think of a way to make ourselves known to the new owner...any ideas??

The Delaware Sangerbund is going to be held this weekend (9/16-18), and I think a few members may stop by for the food (and maybe a beer or two).

The 2nd Annual First State Brewers Homebrew Contest will be held at the home of Jeff Ramberg on 10/21, so make sure your beer will be ready on time. If you want a copy of the rules, feel free to e-mail Hank

The schedule for the next few months meetings are:
September John & Cindy
October Jeff
November Scott
December Marty

If I remember correctly, we usually do a "Pub Crawl" in Baltimore in Nov / Dec. - we should discuss this and make some arrangements and set a date.

John and Scott were going to research T-Shirts for the club.

And finally, the club got it's order of brewing supplies in. Included in the order was 500+ pounds of grain and 7 pounds of hops (should make a lot of beer)

See you guys on the 16th.

HANK

September Meeting of the First State Brewers:
Will be at the home of John & Cindy Cook this Friday, September 16th @ 7:30 pm.

Yes, we (John & Cindy Cook) are hosting this one. The pool is still open, so if anyone wants to take a dip, they can - the water's still warm. I might be a little late too - I work that day. And the next. Shoulda picked a different month.

Hello Everyone at First State Brewers,

We have sold the shop to Joe & Marlana Gallo as of September 7. We helped them prep a big order to restock and may be able to take shipment by as early as Friday. The lease and bill of sale were signed late yesterday afternoon and LD Carlson is working hard to get us this order by Friday. All remaining items in the beer & wine making areas are back at full retail, while the soap items remain at 20% off, as the Gallos are discontinuing soap supplies.

We've enjoyed your patronage and hope you will support the Gallos as they get their new business off the ground. You may even see us there buying our own supplies! All the HDYB email is still coming to my mailbox until they get their account set up and we transfer the web pages. We can forward questions if anyone would like us to - we don't want to give you incorrect information as we don't know what their hours, policies, etc. will be. We do know they intend to stock like we did in beer supplies - lots of different hops and grains and White Lab yeasts, but again I can't be specific.

The Gallos are very experienced wine makers, but will need some help with beer. Pete will probably do some brewing at the shop to show them how it's done, and maybe the FSB can have a meeting/brew demo as well sometime this fall. You may still see my face occasionally as I fill in for the Gallos when they have conflicts (like their daughter's wedding).

Most of you know that I've had chronic back pain for over a year and can't unload the trucks anymore. I had another procedure today that I hope gives me more relief, but I would still be restricted on unloading shipments. Our children are only 2 and 4 years away from leaving for college, and we don't want to miss that little remaining family time. My parents are also getting older - my father was in hospital for 9 days last month, and closing the shop will give me more flexibility to deal with their health problems and my own AND plan for what to do with my life sans children.

Anyway, it's been a great 3 years and I wish the Gallos all the best.

Jan (& Pete) Hall

Scott,
I think everyone had a great time last week. We took in $224, which we will split between the two Delaware Clubs. Please let me know who to make it out to and what address to send it to.

Thanks,
Mark
