October Meeting Minutes

The October meeting of the First State Brewers was held at the How Do You Brew store in Newark. Thanks Pete and Jan! Turnout was light, though, as there were only 5 people in attendance.

In attendance were Garrett Sever, Oliver Weatherbee, Scott Bieber, Gary Dunham and a new potential member, Dain Simons, who wandered over from the art gallery next door.

Beers:

BieberIPA (from Sept) (keg)
WeatherbeeBrown Ale (growler)
SeverRed Honey Ale (3x12oz)
Pumpkin Ale (3x12oz)
Weyerbacher Rasperry Imperial Stout (2x12oz)
Pete&JanRyePA, Belgian Wheat

Had fun. Drank, sampled, and talked beer stuff. Mrs. Weatherbee said "hell no" to being DD for our Dec 4 pub-crawl - must find new victim. Excitement w/ cop in parking lot as we left.

Elections! Yes it’s that time again! No, not THAT election. Club elections!

The club is a buzz with campaign slogans, as well. Here’s some of the thing I have heard:

I actually did brew an ale, before I brewed a lager.
You can drink, but you cannot imbibe!
I served this beer as a young man and I will brew it as President
Wrong beer, wrong bar, wrong time

This month we nominate officers. Next month we vote. Remember, absence from these meetings increases your chances of being elected! Also, don’t forget out motto, “Attend one meeting and you’re a member…attend more than one and you’re officer material!”

There is a Baltimore Pub Crawl planned for December 4th. No one will admit they volunteered to plan this trip, though. However, I’m sure we will sort out the details at the meeting. As I recall, the plans are to leave around 11:00 am and return around 8:00 pm.

The November meeting will be held this Friday, November 19th, 7:30 pm at the home of Jeff Ramberg. Jeff says he will put together a little program on meads. “I certainly have some mead for us to sample”, Jeff says. Sounds good!

Scott,

this means, that you will be most likely 7 to be visit Marburg next March. Arriving on the 29th of March and staying until April 2nd.
I think I can promise so far 3 places for accomodation (if Manuela confirms). 2 can stay at my place, 2 can stay at Manuelas place and
2 can stay at Adelheids place (which would mean a short commute by train every day of 15 minutes one way). I will also ask Cäsar and
Ralf and Anne, if they have time and would not mind. In case of an emergency, I can always set up another bed in my living room.
I am planning on taking the time off while you are in Marburg. So, I guess I better get startet on the activities.
Wednesday the 29th Dinner Party at my place (Local Beer variaties and if possible "off flavour testing with Licher Beer and the off flavor kit"
Thursday the 30th Visit Lauterbach and visit of the Castle Brewery and Lauterbach Brewery
Friday the 31st Visit Krombacher Brewery
Saturday during the day shopping in Giessen - or Marburg
Saturday the 1st Dinner at the Alt Giessen and beer tasting
I will get startet this week arranging the dates for Thursday and Friday, alternatively I will also look into a visit of the Warsteiner Brewery.

Have a nice week

Harald

Hi Scott,

I am replying from Germany. I was busy arranging my trip so I didn't have a chance to respond. I will also be in Glouchester England in Nov. on business. I hope to connect with Harald tomorrow.

As for B&B's I haven’t checked out the referenced sites yet. I haven’t been able to get Internet access at the hotel here in Oestringen.

More later got to go to a meeting. I'm in the plant right now. Say hi to everyone.

The abbey dubbel I sent home with you is drinkable. I chilled one today and cracked it just a few minutes ago when I put the kids down. Its fully carbonated and ready to go.

I think it could benefit from 1 or 2 months aging, but its still pretty tasty.

Dude, I’m sitting here drinking the last of the IPA you brought over - and I love it.
And I have to ask... What the hell is the secret you got going on in this beer?
Honestly, I taste flavors in it that are more akin to a dubbel like Ommegang than an IPA... I just don’t get it. But man is it good stuff.
