November Meeting Minutes
The November meeting of the First State Brewers was held at the home of Jeff Ramberg. The first order of business was to nominate club officers for December's election. Running unopposed for all offices were the following:
| President | Scott Bieber |
| Vice President | Garrett Sever |
| Secretary | Hank Keller |
| Treasurer | Jeff Ramberg |
Nominations remain open until the vote at the December meeting. Therefore, if anyone really had their eye on that Secretary position, for example, they still have the opportunity to run. (yah, right!)
Also discussed was the upcoming (past) Baltimore Pub Crawl. The details of said pub crawl will be discussed later!
A brief discussion of the Spring UK/Germany trip ensued. It was noted at the time that Dave Lawrence as well as Hank & Anjou Keller had not made their airline ticket purchase, yet. Also, the participants need to settle on and book a B&B to stay at while in York.
Jeff Ramberg served some mead he had and discussed a little about when and how it was made.
Meeting locations for the coming months were established and are as follows:
| December | Garrett Sever |
| January | Marty Drinan |
| February | Scott Bieber |
| March | Jerry Carney |
| April | Hank Keller |
A number of club members brought beer to sample and were as follows:
Also in attendance was John Biggins.
The December Meeting will be Friday, December 17 @ 7:30 pm.
It will be held at the home of Garrett Sever

Hey Scott,
If you want to sum up the suggested meeting activities, they so far amount to:
- Hop swap (if folks are interested, they should bring an ounce or two of hops)
- Thermometer calibration (bring your thermometer).
- Voting in of nominated 2005 officers
I put the British Pale Ale (bitter) in the kegerator this morning - should be good-to-go by friday. Right now I've got a scottish ale on tap that was a real suprise - its very good, but it was supposed to be an Irish Red ale... guess that's what happens when you use the Edinburg Ale yeast instead of an Irish strain ;-) Wife told me that I *HAD* to save her some, so when the British pale ale goes on tap I'll be taking that one off... at least until my 3 faucet tower comes home with me (after X-mas).
See you there - I'll be providing food.
Best regards,
-Garrett

Subject: Beers this friday
Scott,
In addition to the English pale/bitter on tap, I figured what better time to drink some abbey ales! I put 3 22oz bottles of Dubbel and 3 22oz bottles of Trippel in the fridge for Friday... They have both really come into their own recently - pity I have so little of the trippel left!
We'll have to see if anyone is interested in the Unibroue Terrible - I've had it several times and just adore it.... was going to talk to folks and see what input they had about cloning it - suggestions on grains, hops, & candi sugars - at 10.5% ABV and its very light body, I have to believe they use a substantial amount of candi sugar (like 2 lbs per 5 gallons or something)....
I still haven't touched the 3 remaining bottles of Brooklyn's Black Chocolate Stout either - If Dave Lawrence comes, I'm sure he'll be all over it.
Well, we'll see you there.

Hope you guys had fun in Baltimore and no one got arrested ;-)
I've updated the website - its all PHP driven now. What that means is we can add new features and stuff more easily. For example, I've put a simple counter and guestbook on there. I'm still learning PHP as I go, so things are pretty rudimentary right now. I hope to make some time and get a recipes section that works up... not sure when that'll happen though.
Let me know which of the beers I should have kegged & ready for the Dec meeting when you get a chance! -Garrett

Subject: December meeting
Hey Scott,
I updated the website so it reflects the December meeting at my house. Once I get the schedule for the beginning of 2005 I'll put that up too.
Quick ? for the December meeting - what do you think I should have on tap for folks? I've got the following in kegs:
* Irish Red Ale
* Ye Olde Porter
* British Pale Ale / Bitter
* Scotch Ale (wife's beer - probably shouldn't touch this one)
Unfortunately I won't have my 3-faucet tap until after Xmas, so I gotta choose 1 and go with that... what would your preference be?
Also, I thought that this meeting might be a good opportunity for another attempt at the hop swap since its close to Xmas and all... I'll have a pound of Amarillo hops by then, and I'd love to let someone else try some.... they're really fantastic (somewhere between a cascade and a centennial, however with more of an orange flavor and nose rather than your typical grapefruit)...
Hope you all have a blast in Baltimore today. Be safe and don't get in trouble!
-Garrett
